Local hospice presents first ever Golden Solicitor Award
Much-loved local charity, St Peter & St James Hospice, has presented their first ever Golden Solicitor Award to Griffith Smith Farrington Webb LLP Solicitors in recognition of the amount they raised for the charity during the hospice’s Make a Will month in 2017.
During Make a Will month, which takes place every year and returns in April, local solicitors generously agree to offer a limited number of Will-writing appointments free of charge. Instead of paying the solicitor for professional advice, customers are asked to donate to St Peter & St James Hospice. In 2017, the scheme raised a fantastic £11,315, with Griffith Smith Farrington Webb LLP celebrating the highest branch total at £2,740. Other participating solicitors included Mulcare Jenkins, Rohan Solicitors, Waugh & Co, Stevens Son & Pope, Adams & Remers Solicitors, Astburys Solicitors and Morgan Kelly Solicitors.
Stephanie Coleman, who oversees the scheme at the hospice, was thrilled with the success of the scheme and is looking forward to its return this April.
‘At the hospice, we rely on the generosity of our community to cover over 80% of our running costs. All of the solicitors who take part in the scheme, kindly giving their time for free, play a huge role in ensuring local families receive expert and compassionate hospice care from our wonderful team and we’re so grateful to them for their support. All of our 2017 solicitors were exceptional, but we introduced the Golden Solicitor Award as special recognition of the branch that managed to collect the most donations – a huge congratulations and thank you to Griffith Smith Farrington Webb LLP. Thank you also to everyone who decided to either create or update their Will as part of the scheme.’
Sue Bedwell, from Griffith Smith Farrington Webb LLP, said, ‘It was a pleasure to take part in Make a Will month and we’re thrilled to have won the Golden Solicitor Award. At Griffith Smith Farrington Webb LLP we’re passionate about making a difference to our local community where we can and the work of the hospice is incredible and such a valuable local resource. We’ll be taking part again this year and would encourage anyone who would like to create or update their Will to take the opportunity to do so.’
