Welfare

Being diagnosed with a progressive, life limiting illness can have a huge financial impact on patients and their carers. For example, patients may have to give up their job and may face extra expenses such as special diets or travel to hospital. All of these things must be considered and dealt with and our Welfare team is here to help our patients and their carers do just that.

Jacqui O'Donovan, our Welfare Officer and Alyson Smith, our Welfare Assistant, are available to both Hospice and Continuing Care patients, their carers and loved ones to answer questions relating to:

  • A range of practical difficulties or concerns
  • Home care agencies
  • Benefits and prescription costs
  • Finances and funding issues

Jacqui or Alyson are available Monday to Friday 9.30am - 2.30pm.

In addition, the Macmillan Benefits Helpline can help patients and their carers to access benefits and other financial support. They can:

  • Check which benefits patients and carers are entitled to
  • Help patients and carers to fill in the necessary forms and make a claim
  • Advise on other kinds of financial help (e.g. with prescription costs)

They can be contacted on 0808 8010304.
