Physiotherapy

We have two chartered physiotherapists working at St Peter & St James who work closely with the multi-disciplinary team. Physiotherapy can improve the quality of life by minimising the symptoms of illnesses, relieving the side effects of some treatments and allowing patients to maintain their independence.

Physiotherapy can help to improve quality of life in many ways including maintaining or increasing muscle strength and we can supply aids to improve mobility. Our physiotherapists can advise patients and relatives about the safest way to carry out everyday tasks such as getting in and out of a car or getting out of bed. Physiotherapy can also help patients to manage breathing problems and can aid relaxation.

All of St Peter & St James' patients are eligible for physiotherapy. The physiotherapists can see patients within the Hospice in-patient unit, the Continuing Care Centre, during visits to the Day Hospice, or in some instances in their own home. There is a very popular exercise group held in the Day Hospice on a Monday which is known amongst patients as 'Chair Aerobics'. Exercising with others is a great tonic and is also great fun!

Each patient's needs are unique and a physiotherapy programme is tailored for each patient based upon continual assessments.
