Chaplaincy
We are very fortunate to have our own chapel and there is a team of chaplains working within St Peter & St James.
St Peter & St James is a non-denominational organisation. The staff or Chaplains are pleased to contact other churches, denominations or faiths if requested. The Chaplains are available to all of our patients as well as their friends and family, to those with or without religious convictions. Without seeking to "preach" or "convert", the role of our Chaplains is to help individuals find hope, strength and purpose in different ways, which might include:
- Listening and discussing spiritual questions
- Sharing in prayer
- Sharing the Sacrament
A service of Holy Communion takes place in the Chapel on Thursdays at 11.30am and is open to all patients. Patients do not have to be confirmed to take part.
The Chaplains are also involved in the monthly Memorial Service which take place in the chapel at St Peter & St James. Relatives of our patients are invited to attend a Memorial Service six months after the death of their loved one. The service and refreshments in the Day Hospice that follow provide an opportunity for family and friends to spend some time at St Peter & St James and to talk with the Chaplains and other staff should they wish to do so.The Fundraising Department also hold an annual Lights of Love service every Christmas at St Peter & St James which is a fundraising event celebrating the lives of those who have died. This event is open to anybody who would like to attend and make a dedication to a loved one, not just the friends and relatives of our patients.
