Training
At St Peter & St James we offer training for both our own employees and external parties interested in learning more about palliative care.
GP Workshops
St Peter & St James run GP Workshops approximately twice a year. The accent is on combining symptom control teaching with applying knowledge to clinical situations using interactive seminars. The unit is available for interested doctors to shadow Dr Steve Dyer, our Consultant in Palliative Medicine, to learn clinical expertise. Doctors may arrange attachments for up to a week in length. GP Registrars may apply for attachments during their Practice year.
Dr Dyer is an Associate Tutor to the Diploma in Palliative Medicine run by The University College of Medicine, Cardiff. He is also a Mentor in Palliative Medicine to the Brighton and Sussex Medical School. Through international links overseas doctors are also welcomed to come for training attachments.
NVQ Training
At St Peter & St James we encourage our Healthcare Assistants to do their NVQ training. If they are under 25 then courses are free. There are several modules that nurses can choose that relate directly to the specialised field of palliative care.
Nursing staff
We provide 3 days of internal mandatory training for all nursing staff held monthly throughout the year.
